Trick Or Treat for the Food Shelf

As the temperatures start to dip, there's a crispness in the air that signals the arrival of fall. Fall is my favorite season. What's not to love? The leaves change colors, football is on seemingly every day of the week, and all my favorite sweatshirts come back into the weekly rotation.


Another great part of fall is the beginning of the holiday season. Despite the attempts of major retailers—I'm looking at you, Target—there are a few holidays that come before Christmas. One of those is Halloween. Costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating are the highlights of many childhoods, and for good reason.


This fall, we’ve taken inspiration from our childhoods and are hosting the second annual “Trick or Treat for the Food Shelf.” This event will bring together youth groups from five churches in the Chaska area to go door to door, asking for donations to support our local food shelf, Bountiful Baskets.


We often think of food insecurity as something that affects people far away, but it's important to realize that 1 in 10 Minnesotans struggle to find food reliably every day. Last year, as a student ministry, we were part of the solution and helped collect over 1,000 lbs of food for our community. This year, with expanded participation from youth ministries at Grace Church, Meadow Spring, Valley Free, and Chaska FCA, we believe we can do even more.


Ephesians 3:20-21 says, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

This event gives our students the opportunity to make a difference and witness the power of Christ doing more than we could have imagined.


We can't wait to see you this Sunday, October 8th, from 4-6 p.m. If, for any reason, we miss your house or you're out of town, feel free to bring food donations to the church anytime between October 6-9.
