The Slow Building Process

In my personal bible study I read Psalm 27:13-14, and it struck a cord with me. It says,

“I remain confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the Lord;

be strong and take heart

and wait for the Lord.

David is the author, and it is all about how the Lord is his light and protection and how David is so committed to seeking Him wholeheartedly. But I was struck by David’s confidence that he would see God come through for him in this life, and David’s job was to wait on the Lord. This verse hit me in light of our building process. We have already seen the goodness of God in how he gave us the land at such a low cost. We identified the property early on in our process and went in different directions but came back to it. Then we asked the woman who owned a large tract of land if she would divide the piece of land south of Engler off and sell it to us. She agreed and then we agreed to a price of $250,000 for 25 acres. It was definitely the goodness of God in the whole process.

And again we saw the goodness of God in the tremendous fund raising results we got this winter. Our church raised just over $800,000 in pledges. That was a great movement of God in our community and the money has been coming in consistently. If you made a pledge and are giving to the building fund, thanks for being a part of fund raising efforts!

Now we are in the process of getting Carver County approval for our building plan. We first went to the township for their approval. This week we went to the County Planning Commission and received their unanimous approval. On June 4th we go before the County Board for their approval. Then the Watershed District needs to approve our plan as well. So far in these steps God has given us favor before each group we present to.

This process is a lot of minutiae and a lot of details and a lot of waiting. Tom Moorse is doing a great job leading this, but the process takes time. That is why this verse spoke to me so directly. I am confident we will see the goodness of God and we will have a permanent facility on our land. But right now He wants us to wait on Him. He wants us to be strong and not to lose heart and simply wait on the Lord. And waiting isn’t passive. It is actively looking to Him, praying to Him and working with Him to make this a reality.

So would you wait on the Lord with me as we pray and look to Him to meet our needs?
