Suvin Moon was born in South Korea, and she has been living in Minnesota with the Kaaup family. She graduated this May from Southwest Christian High School. She plans to attend George Washington University in D.C. to study further. Before furthering her studies, she will be taking a gap year in South Korea to spend some time with her family and to further her faith in God.
She grew up in a Christian home where her mother is a believer of Jesus Christ. She remembers going to church at a young age. Like many kids, she went to church because it was what her family did. It was not until she came to America that she made her faith in God her own. It was at South West Christian High School that Suvin began to see a new perspective on the Gospel. Through a constant exposure of the Christian faith by her host family and school experiences, Suvin began to realize that Christ truly was the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Suvin is grateful for her upbringing, but it is not all smooth sailing. She struggles with anxiety, depression and the unknown future. What has gotten her through these tough times is prayer and knowing that God is always with her; that God doesn’t give advice from afar but steps into her suffering and walks with her through it all.
Going to a secular university can bring fear. What gives Suvin hope and peace for the future is having a spiritual foundation and family that she can depend on. The Kaupp family, Westbrook Community Church and her family back home are people she can depend on when trials and temptations come her way.
Suvin has been of significance to the Student Ministry Group here at Westbrook. She has been a faithful attender who is always asking questions and building the faith of others in the group. She has been a role model, not only for the students, but also for everyone who knows her at church. Her presence alone lets others know that her love for Christ is astounding since she lives her life in a way that honors Him.
When I think of Suvin, I think of Psalm 103:
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Our Prayer for her: May God do immeasurably more in Suvin’s life than all we could ever ask or imagine. Display your power in her life, Lord, and let all that she does bring glory to your name.
